About Julie

Landscape artist Julie Dumbarton lives and works in Langholm, in the Scottish borders.

Working predominately in oils on both canvas and paper, Julie’s landscape paintings capture the mood of a piece through careful and accurate attention to the natural landscape whilst employing her emotional response to the places she loves.

The next pages contain original landscape paintings and prints.

landscape artists invariably have a love of their environment and this is clearly seen in Julie's work. The rolling hills and mountains of Scotland figure largely in the collection of landscape paintings, as well as those of the Lake District and Cumbria where Julie lived and still visits regulary.

Julie is a highly successful and popular Landscape artist, and over the past 10 years as a professional artist she has had many solo and joint shows both in the UK and abroad

As a landscape artist, Julie endeavours to inspire and nurture our love of the natural world.

The Scottish borders and south west Scotland is a wonderful place to live amongst a large community of artists. The local area provides so many of the necessary elements for landscape paintings and this is reflected in the popularity of The Spring Fling, an annual event where all the artists open their studios to the public in the last weekend of May.

Julie has been a professional artist since graduating in 1996.

Julie graduated with a BA (hons) in Fine Art Painting at Loughborough College of Art and Design, before which she studied for 2 years at Blackburn Art College. Julie won the Astra Charnwood Prize at the end of her degree and also had a successful show at Alexandra Palace in London and another in Hartford in America.

After leaving university Julie carried on her success by showing work in the Habitat stores throughout the country and carried on to have solo and joint shows throughout the Uk and abroad. Julie worked in the Manchester art studios before moving to Cumbia and then Langholm in Scotland where she has build a reputation as a highly regarded and hugely successful contemporary Landscape artist.  She ran an artists residency at Skelwith Fold nature reserve and has judged art shows in both england and scotland.

After looking for a studio Julie found the derelict Bakehouse and worked for 6 months to covert it into the Bakehouse studio. Julie has been involved in the Spring Fling open studios for three years and has had visitors from around the world to this unique event where you can see where julie works and buy a painting or print.

Julie has had several corporate commissions and produces large scale paintings for company buildings.
